Summary

150 denarii, 1,411 antoniniani (radiates), 1 sestertius, 3 dupondii and 4 asses to add 270. Found while operating a mechanical digger on the site of gravel-workings at North Bestwall Farm. The area, which is bounded on north and south by the floodplains of the rivers Frome and Piddle, lies between the town of Wareham in the west and Swineham Point in the east. The bulk of the coins was contained in a single pot which was still in situ, though its top had been slice and carried away, with some of the coins, by the blade of the digger. With a metal-detector a further quantity of loose coins was discovered. 1,562 coins, of which eight were bronzes, 149 denarii, 1,405 antoniniani (radiates): Hadrian - Aurelian.
