Summary

The discovery revealed a shattered Roman urn that held numerous Roman coins, clustered together and coated in copper's green oxide. It was found in Charnwood Forest, estate of Mount St. Bernard, near Loughborough, Leicestershire. The urn and coins were turned out of the ground and broken by the plough. The place where it was hidden is one of the highest spots in the forest and commands a very extensive view of the surrounding country. 1050 antoniniani (radiates): Philip I - Tetricus I.

The urn measured, at its largest part, twenty-two inches in circumference and weighed twelve pounds. It had been a jar of hard grey ware with a fairly narrow footstand, just over 3 in. wide, and had burnished lines and a loop pattern on the body. It survived to only 4½ in. in height.
